Designed by Antonio Fernandez Architects in Povoa de Vazim in Portugal is this house in a new subdivision still being developed. All spaces interconnect and then open onto an inner courtyard that is central in the polygonal shaped block. On the second floor is limited by subdivision regulations while the lower floor has more depth allowed.
The exterior of the house is a black vertical form with mirrored polygonal shapes with an enclosing wall in black metal sheet. When you cross a metal and timber bridge to the house there are glass frames and glazing to take advantage of natural light entering the lower floor.
A floating black staircase takes you above the lower level of kitchen, dining and living spaces to the upper floor where the bedrooms and bathrooms are found. The living room opens onto the courtyard with a smaller private courtyard opening up from the private spaces.
White is the dominant colour on the upper floor with mirrored walls bouncing light into the interior of the house. A large glazed wall looks over the courtyard from the bedrooms.
A games room and a cinema can be found in the basement. The gardens have been designed with simplicity in mind.
